Printing explained

A simple introduction to DPI

Before we get all technical, please note that DPI concerns only images, photos and visual files destined to be printed or rendered on a screen.

Also, there are standards with DPI:

  • 72 for computer screens

  • 300 for good quality printing

  • 400 for high quality printing

The difference between 300dpi and 72dpi is found in the amount of pixel information (or dots) for every square inch of the image you are viewing. The more dots/pixels the image contains, the sharper the image will print. ... Printing will look blurry if a 72dpi image is used as compared to using a 300dpi high res image

DPI stands for « Dots per Inch ». It is the number of points (or pixels) that are rendered in one inch on the interface

Our Photos

So currently we have two different ways of purchasing photos from us. We have personal use photos which are for personal use only and we have our editorial photos which are photos that may be used to promote, sell or advertise in any way.

Within both of these spheres we have the web ready option and the original file option. The web ready option if cheaper and runs at 72 dpi and is basically for computer use only ands is is too small or grainy for any printing. The original file option is for anyone wanting to print photos and covers all sizes up to and including poster size.

We can print for you here at The Nomad company of course and our printing service is done here in Perth and with professional pricing ink and paper.
